Most pianos should be tuned at least once a year. If your piano is played regularly, or kept in an environment with fluctuating humidity or temperature, tuning may be needed every 6 months to maintain proper pitch and sound quality.

Pianos are sensitive to climate changes. Variations in humidity and temperature cause the wooden components and strings to expand or contract, affecting the overall tension and pitch — even if the piano hasn’t been used.

A standard tuning usually takes between 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the piano’s condition. If additional work like pitch correction or minor repairs is required, it may take a bit longer.

Yes, but it depends on the condition. Some older pianos may require extra care, pitch raising, or regulation work before tuning. John can assess your instrument and recommend the best course of action.

Ideally, yes — especially the first time — so we can discuss any concerns or history of the piano. That said, once a trusted relationship is established, some clients are happy to leave access for the appointment.

Ensure the piano is accessible, with good lighting and minimal background noise. Please remove any items from the top of the piano before the appointment.

While a formal certificate is not typically necessary, John can provide a service summary upon request and advise if any additional work is recommended.
